But one that could foreshadow India's growth story. Can Teleperformance's stock plunge be the canary in the coal mine for what is likely to happen to India because of AI? But it's likely to be a blip for India's growth trajectory, given the macro forces at play. Besides creating jobs that are less likely to be immediately disrupted by AI, India could also be a net beneficiary of artificial intelligence. The Indian stock market indexes, Sensex and Nifty 50 , are heading for a positive week again — up by 1% and 1.2%, respectively.

Ted Pick, CEO Morgan Stanley, speaking on CNBC's Squawk Box at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 18th, 2024. Morgan Stanley is set to report first-quarter earnings before the opening bell Tuesday. Pick's tenure has kicked off on a rocky note, as high interest rates have incentivized the bank's wealth management customers to move cash into higher-yielding securities. But if its rivals are any indication, Morgan Stanley could be helped by strong investment banking and trading results in the quarter. Analysts are likely to question Pick about reports that multiple U.S. regulators are investigating Morgan Stanley for potential shortfalls in how it screens clients for its wealth management division.

Club holding Wells Fargo will post quarterly results on Friday, followed by our other financial holding, Morgan Stanley, on Tuesday. In theory, higher borrowing costs mean Wells Fargo can generate more money from those interest-earning assets, but it's not that simple. It's hard to say with the fluid inflation and rate expectations whether Wells Fargo might change its NII outlook when it reports on Friday. Wells Fargo also has a key long-term growth prospect in the potential removal of its $1.9 trillion Fed-imposed asset cap. A woman walks past Wells Fargo bank in New York City, U.S., March 17, 2020.

Dividend stocks have come under pressure in today's higher interest rate environment as investors have turned to bonds with juicy yields. Another utility play, Exelon , has a 4% dividend yield and is also up less than 1% so far this year. Layoffs could be coming to Morgan Stanley's crucial wealth management business — a prudent step to improving the bank's overall cost structure amid uncertainty over Federal Reserve interest rate moves. Wall Street is forecasting a better backdrop for companies that want to go public. While lower rates can stoke the IPO market, fewer rate cuts because the economy remains strong with cooling inflation should still be viewed as favorable. The IPO market and mergers and acquisitions (M & A) activity started to sour when the Fed began hiking interest rates back in March 2022. Morgan Stanley 's new CEO, Ted Pick, on Thursday expressed confidence his bank will hit financial targets of $10 trillion in client assets and a 20% return. Pick, a three-decade Morgan Stanley veteran who took over this month, said he has three priorities: sticking to the strategy laid out by predecessor James Gorman, maintaining the bank's culture and achieving their targets. Pick's predecessor guided Morgan Stanley in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis that nearly capsized the investment bank. "Part of the reason the boss had so much success is he kind of guided the place to a durable narrative instead of the herky-jerky, unpredictable Morgan Stanley," Pick said. The firm's "secret sauce" is in the combination of a leading investment bank with its wealth management operations, he added.
